"I founded MARMI with one belief: skincare should never force you to choose between performance and sustainability. Inspired by my background in sustainability and years of studying cosmetic formulation, I create innovative skincare powered by biotechnology and upcycled ingredients that deliver visible results while caring for both your skin and the planet."
I never set out to build a skincare brand. I set out to solve a problem.
Long before MARMI existed, I was fascinated by one simple question: why do we keep extracting new resources when nature already gives us so much that goes unused? During my master's studies I researched how agriculture impacts our environment. The more I learned, the more I realized that many valuable plant materials were being discarded, while new resources continued to be cultivated, harvested, and transported around the world. It felt wasteful—and unnecessary.

We believe reducing waste in the cosmetic industry doesn’t only concern packaging but the ingredients themselves. With upcycling we use parts of plants that already exist (such as leaves, skins or seeds) and were cultivated for other purposes than cosmetics. With this approach we need less land, water and ressources while harvesting the same amount of actives and vitamins from a plant. Thus, working with parts of plants that are usually unused provides a unique opportunity to harness the power of nature's ingredients that would otherwise go to waste. MARMI creates its products with upcycled ingredients because we believe waste is not an end but a source that can be translated to high-quality skincare.
Biotechnology uses natural processes—such as fermentation and plant cell cultivation—to create high-performance skincare ingredients without putting additional pressure on nature. Instead of harvesting large amounts of plants, biotechnology can produce the same or even more potent active compounds in a controlled, sustainable way. The result? Ingredients that are highly pure, effective, and consistent, combining the best of nature with the precision of science. For example, rather than collecting large quantities of algae from the ocean, biotechnology allows us to grow algae naturally and obtain the same skin-loving benefits. The ingredients remain natural, but are produced in a smarter, more sustainable way. This means high-performance skincare that's better for both your skin and the planet.
